In 2009, a lab mix from the Tupelo Lee Humane Society in MS waited for her new family to come find her. She was 6 weeks old when they did. Kurt and Marty adopted Winnie Claire and has brought joy to them ever since.
Kurt and Marty had been married for 4 years and wanted to add to their family but they didn’t believe they were quite ready for a baby.
One Saturday they decided to "go look" at dogs at the local animal shelter -- never a practical goal! It's impossible to "just look" at those sweet faces.
They went to the puppy room first. While Kurt was browsing puppies, he looked over at Marty who had tears streaming down her face and was holding a tiny black fur-ball. The search was over. They took the puppy to the bonding room where Winnie was very docile and snuggly. They signed the adoption papers and took Winnie home.
Soon, Winnie wouldn’t be an only child. In 2011, Campbell was welcomed into the world. Ever since, Winnie has been a loving and protecting big sister.
The two of them enjoy to go on walks together and snuggle.
Winnie is now 7 years old and weighs 80 pounds. She is completely spoiled and brings joy and love to her whole family. She will always be their first child. Winnie's human little brother is 5 years old now. Soon she will welcome another human baby to her family to protect and love!
Her family says Winnie is a blessing, and it turns out she is the one who rescued them!
